Josh R. McDonald was born in 1989 and grew up on his family's ranch in the Central Oregon town of Powell Butte. He studied at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon, where he received his art degree in 2014.

Josh showed in various juried and capstone exhibitions at E.O.U., earning scholarships and awards such as Best of Show and the Presidential Art Award, making him part of the universities permanent collection. Josh finished art school being selected to represent his school at the Recent Graduates Exhibition at Blackfish Gallery in Portland, Oregon.

In 2016 Josh moved to Seattle, WA where he has since shown in galleries such as Plank Gallery, Cloud Gallery, studio e, Season, Plasteel and CoCA. In 2018 he showed in a solo exhibition at Art Center East in La Grande, Oregon.

Josh was a participating artist in 1 Room, a group exhibition presented by studio e in conjunction with the 2018 Seattle Art Fair. He was also a selected artist for Relish Magazine, and was featured in Volume 3 print edition. Concurrently showing work in a pop-up exhibition at 9th and Thomas, Seattle, presented by Relish.

Josh is currently living in Seattle, Washington, working as an Art Preparator/Handler in Pioneer Square, continuing his art practice.
